I just got my surgery done today and I dont feel any pain right now. Do you have any suggestions or tips to stay pain free? I dont have pins sticking out of my toes, I got the pins implanted and I am so freaked out because I cant see whats happening under the bandages!!
Congrats on your surgery..let me know how the recovery goes!
The only time I had pain was when my toe was turning/rotating. Because I had the pins exposed, it was much easier for them to get caught on something & to hit something. Once, my dog jumped and landed on my pin which turned my toe; Very painful. You're fortunate you have them implanted and don't have to deal with being extra, extra careful.
Other than that... They didn't hurt much! I did keep ice on them & kept them elevated 24/7.
I freaked out the first time I saw my feet because of the pins sticking out; I couldn't look until he wrapped them back up. Let me know how the pins feel & look that are implanted instead of sticking out like mine! Maybe you could look unlike me who freaked out!
So i went to get my stitches taken out yesterday (7/31/12) and I am so happy with the results so far!!! They dont look as bad as i thought they would at my first follow up appt. I still cant get them wet until saturday but i want to know how long did you wait to paint your toes or get an official pedicure and how did it feel? Also did your toes ever appear to be floating a bit? I have to wrap mine everyday to keep the swelling down. Im wondering if that also helps your toes return to normal position(touching the ground)?
I had my surgery done in July and now the Kwire is out. I still think my toe looks oddly bigger than the rest (it also doesn't quite touch the floor because the kwire kept it straight/stiff) Did u experience this? (I'm hoping its just swelling and will reduce in time?)
My toes, as well, looked longer than the others after the pins were removed. I thought they would have been shorter. My doctor told me my toes were swollen and will eventually go down...and they did!
After he pulled the pind out, my toes were very stiff like yours. They eventually went down and touched the ground and worked like normal toes. How long ago did your kwire come out? If its been a while and they're still floating or not touching the floor, I would talk to your doctor. Maybe he would give you exercises to start moving your toes, etc.
Beautiful! What was your shoe size before and after surgery? I'm hoping the toe shortening surgery will make my 8 1/2, sometimes 9 shoe size into at least 8 or less. I want to get my 2nd toes and pinky toes done. Pinky toes cause it'll give the illusion of smaller feet also. I have really long feet which I hate.
Is your surgery scheduled? I was hoping my shoe size would shrink after my surgery but it was still 9.5 which I'm okay with! Now a days, most people have bigger feet too! Good luck and keep in touch!
Hi Geena! I had my left foot done on yesterday. I had 3 toes shortened as well as my big toe straigtened which will have a permanent staple in the bone. I'm not in much pain but my toes are really numb. Did you have this feeling? If so, how long did it last? Also, how long were your pins in before they were removed? I am scheduled to have my right foot done in 5-6 weeks.
Hi Geena, great blog! I suffered all my teenage years having a freakishly long second toe on one foot... now I finally went through surgery a view days ago! i had my bandages changed yesterday and was quite disappointed as the toe doesn't really look a great deal shorter than it was before:-( I have a pin sticking out of it. the doc said the toe will still shorten a bit - anyone had the same issue??
Hi -- I hate my feet so much, and am considering getting toe-shortening surgery. Here is a link to a picture of my feet: http://lillylongtoe.blogspot.com/ What do you think? Is the surgery worth it? Thx, Lilly
